Meet Tim Ackert

Tim was born and raised in Connecticut. His parents were blue-collar workers who did everything they could to provide for their family. Unfortunately, his parents divorced when Tim was young, and his mom raised her three children, working many jobs to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. Tim grew up in the Norwich Housing Authority or what was affectionately called “the projects.”

Tim attended local public schools and was a very good student. However, understanding his family’s economic struggles, he did not see a path to higher education. In his senior year of high school, Tim enlisted in the United States Air Force. He proudly served his nation for four years, and during his enlistment, he was combat deployed twice to the Middle East for Bright Star operations.

While in the Air Force, Tim met his beautiful wife Teddie. After his service time, they moved to Connecticut, where Tim planned to start his own business. Together, they had two amazing children, their daughter Taylor and son Travis, and he is graced with four beautiful grandchildren. Tim lost his wife of 35 years to a long, heroic battle against breast cancer. During Teddie’s battle with cancer, he would sit by her side while she received her many chemo treatments.

Tim was trained in the military as an electrician and that training led him to own and operate many businesses. He currently runs Ackert Electric, LLC, a 33-year business in Coventry, CT. He is proud to say that he is fortunate to help others learn and prosper in the electrical field.

Tim is a staple in Coventry, where for decades he served on many boards and commissions, coached youth sports, and has been a 20-year member of the American Legion Post 52. He was active in Coventry and Connecticut Junior Chamber of Commerce, and in 2002, he was elected state president. Tim was appointed by Governor Rell to serve on the Community College Board of Trustees from 2006 to 2010. He is the president of the CT Veterans Day Race, a nonprofit supporting Connecticut Veterans.

Tim was elected to the Connecticut General Assembly in 2010. He has served on many committees because he believes that is what makes a well-informed legislator. He has held many leadership roles, including ranking member of the Education, Energy and Technology, and Labor and Public Employees Committees during his career. Currently, he is Deputy Leader at Large.

Tim is running for Lieutenant Governor because he feels it is time for him to bring his experience and strong work ethic to more than the 8th district, where he proudly served for the last 16 years as State Representative.

TIM ACKERT – REPUBLICAN FOR LT. GOVERNOR

“Let’s face it, Connecticut is in decline. Taxes and the cost of utilities are simply too high, young families, like mine, struggle every day to make ends meet. We are losing businesses and talent to other states, and we have no long term vision of where we, as a state, want to go. The politicians in Hartford like to shrug and exclaim “well, we are the land of steady habits” in a feeble attempt to distract from their own failures. Our state is stagnant, because our leadership is stagnant. The time is now to change course, we cannot afford to delay. We need something different to foster in an era of growth and opportunity for Connecticut. I’m running for Governor because something different starts with a different type of Governor.”
